Dorsten's History - Station 20: Herrlichkeit Lembeck

The Herrlichkeit lasted for many centuries until 1803. The mayor's offices of Altschermbeck and Lembeck, whose offices had been in Wulfen since 1825, were established in this area.

The subsequent office of Hervest-Dorsten also had its administration in Wulfen in the "old registry office" until 1938.

The landlord Otto von Ahaus leaves the territory of later Herrlichkeit Lembeck, which includes the church villages of Altschermbeck, Erle, Hervest, Holsterhausen, Lembeck, Rhade and Wulfen, to the Bishop of Münster as sovereign.

The Prince-Bishop loaned the Herrlichkeit to the Lords of Lembeck. They carried out the lower judiciary here until 1803. In the south the Lippe forms the border with the Cologne Vest Recklinghausen, in the west the Herrlichkeit borders on the Duchy of Kleve, in the north and east it is enclosed by the Duchy of Münster.

Mathias von Westerholt, Herr zu Lembeck, issues the “Ordinance of Herrlichkeit”, which regulates ecclesiastical and economic life as well as the defense of the country.

In the course of the Napoleonic Wars, the Herrlichkeit was divided into the “Mairie (mayor's office) Lembeck” (Hervest, Lembeck, Wulfen) and the “Mairie Altschermbeck” (Altschermbeck, Erle, Holsterhausen, Rhade).

After Napoleon's defeat, the former glory of Lembeck fell to Prussia and in 1816 was assigned to the newly formed Recklinghausen district.
